Have you ever been in a panic attack when you realized you were without your phone?

If so, you're not alone—that's a recognized feeling.

The dread or anxiety associated with not being able to access the digital world is known as no-mobile phobia or no-no-mobile phobia.

Considering the proliferation of cell phones over the past 20 years and their growing pervasiveness in everyday life, it's a very contemporary occurrence.

In addition to being used for talking and messaging, phones may now be used for payment, to access government services, and for entertainment, to mention a few uses.

Twenty percent of us check our phones more than fifty times a day, according to Deloitte research.

To check your phone "once about every 20 minutes of every waking hour" is the equivalent of doing that.

What occurs if we are unable to put down our phones?

An increased level of stress is usually associated with sudden withdrawal, according to Eric Lim of the University of New South Wales.

After going through nomophobia himself, Lim researched its effects. He loves cryptocurrencies and uses X, the website that was once known as Twitter, to acquire the majority of his news about them.

"I feel that if I'm not keeping track of what's happening in the cryptocurrency world, I'm missing out," Lim stated.

"It just means that every time I put down the phone, a few seconds later I'll be picking up my phone and checking Twitter again and again."

Lim and colleagues examined nomophobia by means of a survey administered to more than five thousand students at a Chinese institution.

According to the study, sleep deprivation and nomophobia had a negative impact on people's physical and mental health and were positively associated.

Interestingly, those who heavily used one app were more likely to have bad sleep than those who used numerous apps sparingly.

"The user is more deeply captured by a specific activity within the phone that actually causes the individual to sacrifice sleep for that," Lim stated.
